The Cannabinoid Receptors

THC & CBD are the two most prevalent cannabinoids present in cannabis and they work by interacting with receptors in the brain and body to create various effects. THC works by activating these receptors concentrating on the brain and central nervous system to produce intoxicating effects. These effects vary from person to person but the most commonly noted effects are elation, relaxation, sedation, pain relief, energy, increased appetite, or drowsiness. CBD - also binds to the cannabinoid receptors in the brain, but instead of activating the receptors, it inhibits them. For that reason, CBD alone does not have any psychoactive or intoxicating effects, but it can provide effective pain relief, aid in promoting sleep, and help reduce anxiety. When used in conjunction with THC, users will experience a more subtle high and a reduction in paranoia or anxiety that some cannabis consumers may experience when consuming THC alone.
